For the past week I had the great pleasure to attend the Florence Biennale and be part of a wonderful international art show. I have met many artists from all over the world and it has been an amazing experience. Two more days left before the end of the show.

November 4 First Friday was a wonderful event and set the stage for my upcoming trip to the Florence Biennale. The excitement is building and I want to thank everyone who came by to celebrate with me and give me the proper send-off for Italy.

Snapshots of India

During the month of September I will be featuring a special photo exhibit and new paintings focusing on India. The exhibit features 30 photos taken by my German Yogi friend Martin Goetzmann who lives in an Ashram in Uttar Kashi in the Himalayas. They depict the daily life of the Indian people in this rural region of the country. They are fascinating.

Along with these photographs, I’m showing two new pieces that incorporate Vedic texts in Sanskrit from the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.

Art Studio is Moving

As of July 1, 2011 I will move my studio and gallery to a new location not far from the studion at 910 Arts. I have found a new home just one block south, on the corner of 8th Avenue and Santa Fe Drive on the 2nd floor. Here I can combine my graphic design business with the art studio in a fabulous setting with amazing lighting. What more could I wish for.

Visit me on July 1 for First Friday at the new space. I can’t wait.

Art Studio Grand Opening

On March 4, 2011 I celebrated the opening of my art studion in the Denver Art District on Santa Fe Drive. It’s wonderful to be part of the 910 Artist Community in the 910 Arts Building. The opening was a grand success and I look forward to many amazing first Fridays. I couldn’t be happier.

The Art Experience

When I look at art, I want to “experience” it. That’s how art resonates with me. I turn off my mental editor and just look. I let me eyes settle in on the painting and quiet down to “feel” it. Sure, I could examine the use of color, the texture, the composition, and I do that eventually, but my first approach to a piece of art has to be on another level. I want to feel it and internalize the emotion of the painting. Then I can look at the surface and evaluate the technique and whatever else appeals or doesn’t appeal to me. But a painting that does not give me an experience and stirs up an emotion is not interesting. I want more than just a pretty piece of art. That’s how I paint. From emotion.
